Cook’s Assistant, Without the Wandering

Cook’s Assistant, Without the Wandering

In Old School RuneScape, Cook’s Assistant sends you out from Lumbridge Castle for three ordinary ingredients: an egg, a bucket of milk, and a pot of flour. It’s a small quest, but it’s also a useful way to learn how the nearby map connects. Gather the items in one loop, then return to the castle kitchen.

Start with the cook

Talk to the Cook in the kitchen at Lumbridge Castle to start the quest and hear what’s missing. If you don’t already have a pot and bucket, check the Lumbridge General Store before heading out. That saves an avoidable backtrack once you reach the windmill or dairy cow.

Gather the three ingredients

Pick up an egg from the chicken coop northeast of Lumbridge, then use your bucket on a nearby dairy cow to collect milk. For the flour, take a grain from the wheat field northwest of town and carry it to the nearby windmill. Put the grain in the hopper upstairs, operate the controls, then use your pot on the flour bin downstairs.

Close the loop at the castle

Bring the egg, milk, and flour back to the Cook and speak with him to finish the quest. If you’re new to the game, notice how each ingredient teaches a different interaction: pick up, use an item on a character, and operate a piece of machinery. That’s the useful part of this little errand—RuneScape’s world often expects you to try the obvious action on the obvious object.
