Why the New Zephyr Job is Unquestionably Becoming My Next Main in FFXIV: EvercoldThe final keynote at Fan Fest Tokyo just dropped, and while the room is buzzing about the slight delay to Tuesday, February 23, 2027, my mind is entirely stuck on one thing: the Zephyr.
As soon as Yoshi-P revealed that this new physical ranged DPS uses a crossbow and calls down an avian companion named Nephele to fight beside them, I knew instantly that my current main was getting benched.
A True Pet Job for Ranged DPS
We haven’t had a new physical ranged job since Dancer back in 2019, and the Zephyr completely shatters the mold. Unlike Bard, Machinist, or Dancer—which all rely on self-contained rotations, the Zephyr brings a persistent, active companion into the physical ranged mix.
I have to say, seeing the bird and crossbow made me very happy. I have been wanting a ranged class I liked in FFXIV for a long time. Dancer was nice, but it was never really what I wanted, and the same goes for Machinist. Bard never really worked for me at all, I’m just not a fan of harps.
I absolutely love the bird over the Automaton Queen, and on top of this, it looks like we may be able to fly with it; at least the video showed it flying above. But we will have to see in Evercold. Overall, I am quite looking forward to the expansion. After Dawntrail, my love and happiness for the game died pretty hard, but now, with this job and the Viking-like story, my hopes are starting to rise again for the game and this new saga.

Evercold’s New Timeline and Pre-Orders
While I’m incredibly eager to lock into the Zephyr rotation, Square Enix did announce that Evercold has shifted out of its original January slot to a firm release on February 23, 2027. Honestly, if a four-week delay means a smoother launch and better story pacing, I’m completely fine with it.
If you’re looking to play on day one like us, pre-orders open this week on Wednesday, November 4, 2026. Pre-ordering secures Early Access starting on Friday, February 19, 2027, alongside the Wind-Up Köttr minion and Halone’s Earring for a clean 30% EXP boost to level up your existing jobs to 100 before the expansion caps out at 110.
